Originally from the Pacific Northwest, I am co-founder of Cabaret Red Light (2008–2011) and composer/music director for original musical theater at BRAT Productions (2012-2015), with performances chosen by TimeOut New York and Philadelphia’s City Paper as pick of the week and “must see” performances.

Transplanted to South Bohemia in 2015, I now work with Zuzana Smolová (CZ) to create physical theater performances that juxtapose live music and fragments of text with the expressive potential of basic materials – clay, water, sand, paper, glass, steel, wood –, in order to generate unique movements, situations, characters and storylines. Our performances tend to revolve around the human figure who is transformed by a moral crisis, or in which conflicting imperatives lead to a general erosion of the commonsense physical limits that regulate our bodies and worldly environment. Our first work, BESTIÁŘ premiered at Divadlo na cucky (Olomouc, CZ) in December 2016.

I have studied puppetry, mask work and physical acting techniques with Pig Iron Theater (US), Divadlo Continuo (CZ), Rootless Root (GR/SK), and SPAM! Rete per le arti contemporanee (IT), and has led workshops on physical theater at Leonrod-Haus für Kunst (DE), and seminars on theories of visual culture at Fidget Space (US).

A graduate of Stanford University (B.A., 1996) and University of Pennsylvania (M.A., 2000, Ph.D., 2006), I have taught courses on philosophy, cinema and theories of visual culture, at University of Pennsylvania, Haverford College and The Curtis Institute of Music. I also write on contemporary US and global politics (Salon, Alternet, Counterpunch), and was editor and co-author of The Force of the Virtual: Deleuze, Science and Philosophy (University of Minnesota Press, 2010).
